Electroformed Nickel Tools are a leading
edge rapid tooling technology that reflects the production
requirements in the cost of the tool. No longer will you be required
to invest in a tool that can produce an infinite number of parts
when it is only necessary to produce 1000 parts. Metalon Molds'
modular design make it economical to produce anywhere from 20
to 100,000 parts.
Electroforming
is an extremely accurate metal forming technology. A metal coating
is chemically bonded to a model or pattern and removed. The surface
shape and detail is reproduced on the inside of the metal coating.
In the Metalon Mold process, a nickel coating is electroformed
to a prototype of your final part. The prototype is removed exposing
the mold surface. Depending on the production requirements, these
molds can be fitted with contoured cooling lines and cast in a
conductive, high-temperature epoxy. Machining time can be reduced
up to 90% by generating a prototype from a photo-curable resin,
such as Stereo-Lithography (SLA).
