Recently our company was called by a major Canadian manufacturer of industrial motors and generators.
A large bushing was causing vibration because it was approximately 0.003" oversize. The engineers wanted to reduce this to within 0.0005" of the shaft diameter to provide a closer fit. Timing was critical as the machine had to be assembled and on a truck in a very short time to meet oversize load restrictions. Failure to do so would result in significant penalties to the manufacturer.
Using our proven technology, our technicians were able to build-up 0.00125" of hard nickel per side without the need for any post machining. This provided a precise fit for the parts to mate together and eliminated a serious problem.
The repair itself took about 6 hours to perform and resulted in an accurate fit with a hard, durable finished surface.
