| ELIMINATE FLASH FROM PLASTIC INJECTION MOLDSWear or mis-alignment of a plastic injection mold can result in "flash" forming on the parts being molded.
In many instances, traditional methods of repair may not be practical due to distortion or related damage that can be caused.
Our on-site metallizing process can help meet critical quality standards by eliminating this problem.
One example of this is a recent project for one of the "big three" automotive producers.
These side panels had an area that was not acceptable because of flash that left an unsightly, uneven edge. Because this was an area that was very visible in the finished component, additional production efforts were required to eliminate this problem. This obviously resulted in increased costs of production.
With our unique process, we were able to isolate the edge of the mold where this flashing occurred. Then we built-up a specific thickness of material just in that area.
Because we don't use any heat such as that needed to weld a part like this, we didn't have to worry about any distortion of the lower edge that may have produced an un-sightly wavy effect on the finished part.
The result is a cost effective, long-lasting means to rectify a very common and expensive problem.
The same process can be used to eliminate pitting in the base metal of molds such as this.
At this time, we have performed this work for all the major automotive companies in Canada and the United States. |
