When Husky first introduced a particular new model, they experienced a large number of failures of the seals in the clamp cylinder which led to messy and expensive oil leakage.

Metalon was approached to see if there was some type of coating we could apply which would help alleviate this wear and subsequent degradation of the seals.

We felt, however, that the root cause of the problem was not the base metal but the fact that the oil was being cycled so rapidly that it contained an excessive amount of entrained air. Under load when the clamping forces were applied, we believed that these individual air molecules were collapsing, much like cavitation in a pump.

We suggested a reservoir be added into which the oil be allowed to drain where it remained for a sufficient period of time to allow the entrained air to escape.

While not providing a specific coating in this instance, we are pleased our engineering expertise was able to help this valued customer.
